An ILL is an Interlibrary Loan OUTSIDE the Helin catalog system, or Brown University. What happens if you can’t find a book or an article that you need?

Don’t cry! Just request an ILL!
Who can request an Interlibrary Loan? All current PC students, faculty and staff.
How much does it cost?

Don’t worry, we always look for free lenders, and if we can’t find any we’ll let you know.
How long does it take?

Articles arrive via email usually within a couple of business days. Sometimes this takes longer… once we send out a request, we have no control over how long it takes. Don’t count on it being in the next day! Books come by “Library Mail”, even more slowly than regular snail mail, so probably a week or more… so PLAN AHEAD!
How do I make a request?
There are a couple of ways…

One way is from the Library’s Homepage, under “Get It!”, you will see the links for either books or articles. Or…

if you are searching in a database or journal finder, you will see the links on the lefthand side, in yellow.
When you get to it, it looks like this:

Just fill out as much information as you can, and hit the “Send Request” button.
How do I know if it went through?
Check your library account, and there should be and ILL “awaiting arrival”. You will get an email notification for a book, or the article attached.
How long is the loan for?

Usually about a month with a one month renewal possible. Articles are yours to download and keep.
So, happy ILLing. If you have any questions, email us at ill@providence.edu or call 865-1994.
