 Most of us have heard the term “electrolytes” and know that we need them in our body, but what exactly are they and why are they so important?  In short, electrolytes are minerals in the blood that have an electrical charge.  They  control a number of important processes in your body such as fluid balance, muscle contraction, nerve signaling, and blood pH.  Sodium and potassium are the commonly known electrolytes but we also need calcium, sodium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus and chloride.
